Privacy Policy

Thread ("we", "us") is an email and calendar application that connects to your Google account to help you read, triage, and respond to email and manage your schedule. This policy explains what data we access, how we use it, how long we keep it, and how you can delete it.

Information we collect

  • Account information. Your name, email address, and profile image, provided when you create an account or sign in with Google or GitHub.
  • Gmail data. With your permission, Thread accesses your Gmail messages through the Gmail API to display your inbox, show message content you open, triage priorities, and perform actions you request (archive, star, mark read, trash, send).
  • Google Calendar data. With your permission, Thread accesses your calendar events through the Google Calendar API to display your schedule and to create, update, or delete events you ask for.
  • Assistant conversations. Messages you exchange with the Thread assistant are stored so your conversation history is available across sessions.
  • Email triage results. Thread stores a per-message priority and category label (for example "high / meeting") so your priority inbox loads quickly. These labels contain no message content.

How we use Google user data

Thread's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

  • Gmail and Calendar data is used only to provide the features you see in the app: your inbox, message view, priority triage, search, composing and sending mail, and calendar scheduling.
  • Thread does not use Google user data for advertising, and does not sell it to anyone.
  • Humans do not read your data, except with your explicit consent for support, when required for security, or to comply with law.
  • Thread does not copy or sync your mailbox to its servers. Messages are fetched from the Gmail API when you view your inbox and are not retained beyond short-lived processing.
  • To provide AI features (triage, summaries, drafting), relevant message excerpts are processed by the Google Gemini API at your direction. They are used solely to produce the response you requested and are not used to train generalized AI models.

Permissions you grant

Each integration is connected separately and only when you choose to connect it:

  • Gmail (gmail.modify, gmail.send) — read and organize your mail, and send messages you compose.
  • Google Calendar (calendar.events) — view and manage events. Thread cannot change calendar sharing or settings.

Data retention

  • OAuth tokens are stored encrypted and kept only while the integration is connected.
  • Assistant conversations and triage labels are kept until you delete them or delete your account.
  • When you disconnect an integration or delete your account, the associated tokens and stored data are deleted promptly (see below).

Disconnecting and deleting your data

  • Disconnect Google: In Settings, you can disconnect Gmail and Calendar. This revokes Thread's access with Google and deletes the stored tokens and triage data.
  • Delete your account: Also in Settings. This revokes Google access and permanently deletes your account, conversations, notifications, and all stored integration data.
  • You can additionally revoke Thread's access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.

Security

All traffic is encrypted in transit with TLS. OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest with a dedicated key-encryption key. Access to production systems is restricted and audited. No method of storage is 100% secure, but we treat your mailbox with the sensitivity it deserves.

Third-party services

Thread relies on the following processors to operate:

  • Google (Gmail API, Google Calendar API, Gemini API)
  • Our hosting and database infrastructure providers

Children

Thread is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we will update this page and the date above, and where appropriate notify you in the app.
